Rene George Named Player of the Week

Fredericton: The Black’s Harbour Silverkings are tied for first place, sitting atop the Southern Hockey League standings with the Port City Thrashers.

Black’s Harbour’s perch is in large part to the multi-faceted game of Rene George.

The former Maritime Junior A Hockey League stalwart leads the Silverkings in points with six goals and nine assists for 15 points. He played a key role in Black’s Harbour’s 7-6 win over the St. Stephen Seahawks in the latest Charlotte County battle, earning the SHL’s Bud Light player of the week honours for his efforts. George’s statistics have him first overall in league play as well. George has also shown a gritty side to his game with 26 penalty minutes.

Others nominated for the award were Craig Soke of the Thrashers and goaltenders Aaron Molnar of the Silverkings, Jordan Mean of the Nackawic Hawks, Mike Vaughan of Port City and Gene Chiarello of the Hilltop Bud Lights of Fredericton.


Gregor Powers Seahawks over Blackhawks

Saint John : Jeff Gregor scored 2 goals including the game winner at 12:32 of the 3rd period to lift the St. Stephen Seahawks to a 3-2 win over the Saint John Blackhawks on Sun. evening at the LBR.

Adam Nelson had the other Seahawks marker. Nick Nozzolillo had the win in goal making 32 saves.

Ryan Lavine and Kamil Forgie had the Blackhawks goals. Mark Marshall suffered the loss in goal making 35 saves.

The Blackhawks held a 1-0 lead after 20 minutes and the teams were tied 2-2 going into the 2nd intermission.

Thrashers Double Hilltop Budlights

Saint John : The Port City Thrashers doubled the Fredericton Hilltop Budlights 4-2 on Sat. evening at the LBR.

Craig Soke, Ryan Burgoyne, Luc Weatherbie and Luc Cormier did the scoring for the Thrashers, Mike Vaughan had the win in goal making 24 saves.

Pat Olsen and Alex Mollegaard replied for Fredericton. Gene Chiraello suffered the loss in goal making 38 saves.

Silverkings Get By Seahawks 7-6

St. Stephen : The Blacks Harbour Silverkings got by the St. Stephen Seahawks 7-6 on Fri. evening at the Border Arena.

Thatcher Bell scored 2 goals to lead the Silverkings on the scoreboard. Eric Jean, Dan Cocharne, Mike Thomas, Rene George and Chris Hoffman rounded out the scoring for the winners. Todd Baird had the win in goal.

Dave Geris, Darren Shakatto, Sean Turner, Shawn Mersereau, Jason Stirling and Jeff Gregor each had goals in a losing cause for the Seahawks. Nick Nozzolillo suffered the loss in goal.

Port City Doubles Nackawic 6-3

Nackawic : The Port City Thrashers improved their record to 3-0 with a 6-3 road victory Fri. evening at the Nackawic Arens.

Jeff Wilson and Craig Soke each scored twice to lead the Thrashers with single goals coming from Tyler Deitrich and Dave Kennedy. Reg Bourcier had the win in goal.

Steve Pearce, Ryan Paul and Jarrett Paul had Nackawic's goals. Jordan Mean suffered the loss in goal.
